Lake Poygan Mixed Bag

Show Date: January 4th & 5th, 2020

Location: Lake Poygan, Winneconne, Wisconsin

Guide: Captain Matt Merten [920-410-2206 | https://www.badgersportsmanoutdoors.com/ ]

We always enjoy fishing the Winnebago system, there always seems to be something biting somewhere, and the variety of species keeps it's interesting.

Matt Merten grew up on Lake Winnebago, and knows the whole system very well. This week we're fishing Lake Poygan, because it's the only good ice available. With the unseasonably warm weather, the lakes that we'd normally be fishing are either unsafe, or still completely open.

Poygan is a large flat lake, with no distinctive structure, so there is nothing holding fish; that's why the key to success is to keep moving. Matt and his buddies like to keep their set-ups simple, and bare bones, so picking up and moving is as simple as possible - because they move a lot.

We're jigging with small Kastmasters & tungsten jigs, not specifically targeting any species, but catching White Bass, Walleye, & Crappies - which is what makes this system so fun!

Episode 2

A Great Day in the Dells

Location: Wisconsin River - Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Guide:  Pro Guide Big Dave Ehardt [414-803-7160]

The Wisconsin River was absolutely packed full of walleye and sauger for our day with guided, and great friend, Big Dave Ehardt.  Also aboard to join in on the fun was Dave’s good friend Dennis, and he sure did have fun - we all did!

Using a simple Eagle Claw gold hook, a split-shot and a minnow was the key to success during our trip. However, Kastmasters, a jig and minnow, or three-way rigs can also work this time of year.
