Jigging & Tip-Ups

Show Date: March 2, 2024

Location: Hayward, Wisconsin

For this week’s episode, we’ve got a fun day planned, jigging crappies during the day, and setting a spread of Beaver Dams for walleyes in the evening. Using Acme Kastmasters & V-Rods for crappies, and making sure to move around a lot is the key to catching more fish.  During the evening, we catch a few surprise perch while we were waiting for the flags to start popping.

Episode 10

Windy City Perch

Show Date: March 9, 2024

Location: Chicago, Illinois

We embarked on a spontaneous journey to Chicago, drawn by the fond memories of our previous enjoyable trips where we successfully caught lake trout. However, this time around, the elusive lake trout seemed uncooperative. Fortunately, Captain Caleb, our seasoned guide, was quick to suggest an alternative fishing spot near the shore.

To our delight, we stumbled upon a fantastic perch bite just adjacent to Navy Pier in downtown Chicago. Despite being ill-equipped with live bait, we improvised with Kastmasters and plastics, and to our surprise, they proved to be effective substitutes. Our day concluded with a bountiful harvest of perch, achieving a few limits to mark the success of our impromptu fishing adventure.

Episode 11

Lake Erie Walleyes

Show Date: March 16, 2024

Location: Lake Erie, Port Clinton, Ohio

Guide: Charter Captain Mike Patterson [419-308-6925 | mikessportfishing.com]

Accommodations: Hi-Way Bait & Tackle [hiwaybait.com | 419-734-3601]

The walleyes are biting on Lake Erie, and with Captain Mike Patterson always eager for a fishing expedition, we wasted no time getting out on the water. Joining our crew for the day was Captain Caleb Zorn, who took a break from his usual ventures on Lake Michigan to stock up his cooler with fresh catch.

As we ventured out, trolling emerged as the most effective method to lure in the fish. Utilizing planer boards and crankbaits, we cruised along at a steady pace of approximately 1.3 mph. Mike's unwavering reliance on his Humminbird fish finder ensured we pinpointed the prime fishing spots before deploying our lines.

Although we missed out on hooking any of Lake Erie's renowned jumbo-sized specimens, our efforts were rewarded with a satisfying haul of fish, ensuring a delectable feast to be enjoyed at home.

Episode 12

Fun in the Florida Sun

Show Date: March 23, 2024

Location: Sarasota, Florida

This week, we're escaping the chill and venturing southward to Florida! Our excursion includes freshwater bass fishing and saltwater adventures in the Gulf of Mexico. Joining us is Matt Bichanich, our resident bass expert, as we put his angling skills to the test in this new locale.

On the first day, we navigated the serene waters of smaller inland lakes in pursuit of hefty Florida bass. However, it seemed the recent cold front had put a damper on their appetite, with only the male bass showing interest in our bait. Undeterred, we diligently worked the shorelines using Wac-O Worms and Kalin’s Tickle Shad paddle tails.

Day two presented an opportunity for exploration as we set out to sea, targeting waypoints in the saltwater domain. Our initial attempts near shore yielded smaller catches, prompting us to venture further out. As the wind subsided, our efforts were rewarded with more excitement. Back on land, reviewing the day's photos revealed surprises in our catch, adding an extra layer of intrigue to our expedition.

In hindsight, it was a delightful and rejuvenating couple of days spent on the water.
