Episode 40

Northern Minnesota Muskies

Show Date: October 5th & 6th, 2019

Location: Many Point Lake, Ponsford, Minnesota

Guide: Dave Williamson: 320-491-2898

Accommodations: Whaley's Resort & Campground [whaleysresort.com]

This week we’re exploring a new lake in northern Minnesota with guide Dave Williamson, as well as our muskie guru Pete Maina.  Many Point Lake is the name of the lake, it’s about 1,500 acres, and has lots of different areas to check out. The weather during our trip is unseasonably warm, with temps in the 80’s.  No muskie angler is a fan of warm temps, but luckily we’ve got a good amount of wind, so that should help us out.

Episode 41

October Muskies in Vilas County

Show Date: October 12th 7 13th, 2019

Location: Vilas County, Wisconsin

Guide: Pro Guide Rob Manthei [715-477-2042 | robmanthei.com]

This week we’re joining friend and guide Rob Manthei, for what is probably his favorite time of year - muskie fishing season!  Rob tells us that his muskie season has been phenomenal so far, great fishing, and the perfect weather to aid in that fishing; with temps steadily going down.  When we arrive, however, we find ourselves in the midst of a warm up. Rob says you never want a warm up, you want that slow and steady cool-down. The one positive about the slightly warmer weather, is that you have more choice over what lures to choose.  Since the lakes have not turned over, you can use just about anything - the only challenge is finding them. Rob has been finding them in very shallow water in weeds, so that is where we are going to focus our time.

Episode 42

Fall Bass up North

Show Date: October 19th & 20th, 2019

Location: Iron County, Michigan

This week we’re fishing Iron County Michigan, just over the Wisconsin border in the Upper Peninsula. Our target is bass, and we’ve got Dr. Bass himself - Matt Bichanich to guide our way. As the water temps go down, you need to adjust the speed of your presentation, slower than you would retrieve in the summer.

As the lakes are turning over, this time of year can be a challenge, you can catch them both shallow or deep.  Matt’s general rule is to target bass shallow pre-turnover, and go deep post-turnover; looking for rock.
