Episode 36
Exploring Vilas County
Show Date: September 5th & 6th, 2015
Guide: Pro Guide Rob Manthei [715-477-2042 | robmanthei.com]
Accommodations: St. Germain Lodge [ StGermainLodge.com ]

On this weeks show, we take a risk, and check out a small backwoods lake in Vilas County.

Our guide, Rob Manthei, is always exploring (well, when he’s not muskie fishing); and this week he has us traveling to a small bass lake.  Combing through the Wisconsin DNR website, you can sort by county or species, and look at different lakes before you head out.  The lake we are fishing has no houses on it, so it has very peaceful surroundings.

What isn’t peaceful, however, is the ferocity of the bass bites.  We are using Kalin’s Jerk Minnows and Wack-O Worms, and the fight is just a blast.  Having never been here before, we work the shorelines, looking for submerged logs.  Once we locate the bass, we get a steady bite, and the trip turns out to be well worth it.

Hopefully Rob can find another lake next year….

Episode 37
Fishing for Charity
Show Date: September 12th & 13th, 2015
Guide: Pro Guide Rob Manthei [715-477-2042 | robmanthei.com]
Accommodations: St. Germain Lodge [ StGermainLodge.com ]

This 2-part episode shot in Vilas County, Wisconsin, starts off with a busy evening of muskie fishing, and ends with a soggy windy day on the water for walleyes.

We are guided by Rob Manthei, and with only a few hours in the evening after travel, we head out onto the lake to see if we can find a muskie.  Casting spinnerbaits, suicks, and tubes in the weeds is what is working, as we boat a couple of fish.

Day two is the real trip, as we welcome Paul and his Dad Steve, who bid on this fishing trip to benefit the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.  We can’t choose our days, and this one is gearing up to be a stormy, windy, and rainy day.  We get on the lake just before the storm it going to hit our area, and the fish are on fire, five bites on five cast, and 3 fish boated.  After only being on the water for a few minutes, the fast moving system pushes us off the lake.  After the dangerous stuff clears, we head back out, but it is a tough day.  We work hard, in a lot of spots, with many different presentations.  It’s great to have these guys in the boat, we just wished the fishing would have been a bit better.

Thanks so much Steve for your donation to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.

Episode 38
It Isn't Always Easy
Show Date: September 19 & 20th, 2015
Location: Waukesha County, Wisconsin

We all have our bad days on the water, but we all still love to fish despite it.  Doing a new show every week, we can run into a not-so-good fishing day every once in a while.  This was the case this week as we lost hours on the water one day due to lightning and very heavy rain, which lead to our camera being put out of commission.  We needed a second day of shooting to complete the show, and we worked there too.

We view our shooting schedule like an angler that has a weekend to fish, you can’t pick your days.  Like the old saying goes: “A bad day on the water is better than a good day in the office.”

Episode 39
Fall Muskie Adventure on Lake of the Woods
Show Date: September 26th, 2015
Location: Lake of the Woods; Morson, ONT
Accommodations: Grassy Narrows Lodge [GrassyNarrowsLodge.com | 1-800-589-2214]

This week we are on quite an adventure with our muskie guru friend, Pete Maina; and a special mystery guest….

We are on Lake of the Woods, a million acre world-renowned muskie fishery.  Our mystery guest knows the water very well, having fished here almost 20 years.  He knows spots that don't even appear to exist on the map!

Our mystery guest paired with Pete Maina, a world-renowned muskie angler, totals us up to two guides - this is going to be a fun trip!

It’s fall, so it’s already prime muskie season, and we work the prime spots in search of the fish of 10,000 casts.  Those prime spots are almost all rock spots, whether it be near shore, or out in the middle of the lake; this is where these beautiful (and most times elusive) fish will be.
