 Episode 22

Chequamegon Bay Monster Bass

Show Date: June 1st & 2nd, 2019

Location: Ashland, Wisconsin

Guide: Josh Teigen [715-813-0575  | joshteigen.com ]

This week we’re out with charter captain Josh Teigen on the big bay of Lake Superior, Chequamegon Bay.  Josh loves this time of year, because we’re chasing trophy fish. What makes this bite so fun is that we are using all different baits.  Plastics, crankbaits, live bait; whatever you feel like using. However, as we get later in the day we find that live bait is the key to our success.  Using a simple rig with a small sucker on a jig with a bobber. When the bobber goes down, you can’t set the hook fast enough.

We only spent an afternoon on the lake, and had an absolute banner day.  A day we will definitely remember.

Episode 23

Annual Northwoods Buddy Trip

Show Date: June 8th & 9th, 2019

Location: Vilas County, Wisconsin

We’re back in Vilas County to fish with a great group of friends, and have a friendly competition along with it.  We have 3 boats fishing, and in our boat we have John, Tom, and Mike. This time of year can be a bonanza; but it’s not a typical year, with all of the snow melt, and rain this spring.  The area lakes have risen around 4 feet compared to last year, so we aren’t finding fish where we’d normally expect to find them.

Vilas County has a ton of lakes to choose from, and offer just about any species that we’d want to target.  Have an arsenal of rods to quickly switch presentations is our key to success. Whether it be weeds, rocks, or shorelines; we are ready for everything.

We find that we mostly catch bass, even in our walleye spots, so it is probable that the walleyes are hiding somewhere, and we weren’t able to find them.

Even if the fishing doesn’t always go as planned, we still do a good amount of catching.  The best part is spending time with all the buddies in the Wisconsin Northwoods.

Episode 24

Catching Everything on the Willow Flowage

Show Date: June 15th & 16th, 2019

Location: The Willow Flowage, Oneida Co., Wisconsin

Guide: Pro Guide Jeff Winters [715-385-9313 | jeffsguideservice.com]

We out once again with our friend and pro guide Jeff Winters, who’s also brought along his co-guide Josh.  We love to fish with Jeff because he specializes in fishing the flowages of Northern Wisconsin, which are beautiful, and are an absolutely great place to spend a day.  Jeff is also an excellent teacher, so kids & families that don’t fish all that often will be well taken care of when they get in the boat for a day on the water.

The beautiful expanse of the Willow Flowage, which spans over 5,500 acres, can be a lot to attack; which is why we love having Jeff show us the way.  This big body of water has a lot to offer anglers, whether you’re looking for panfish, walleye, bass, pike, ect., the list goes on and on. We sample a little of each, some on purpose, and some via a happy accident.  No matter how you slice up the day, Jeff always puts us on something, and we always have a great time.

Episode 25

Cold-Front Crappies

Show Date: June 22nd, & 23rd, 2019

Location: Vilas County, Wisconsin

Guide: Pro Guide Rob Manthei [715-477-2042 | robmanthei.com]

This week we’re fishing Vilas County, looking for crappies & walleyes.  Specifically in the St. Germain area. As has been the case for most of the spring, it’s wet, cold, and cloudy.  Pro Guide Rob Manthei isn’t phased at all, having fished all spring in very much less that ideal conditions. He says you can’t be worried, just go out and fish, try to adapt, and see what happens.

Episode 27

Summer Fun at Andy Myers Lodge

Show Date: July 6th & 7th, 2019

Location: Eagle Lake Ontario

Accommodations & Guiding: Andy Myers Lodge, Vermilion Bay [https://www.andymyerslodge.com | 888-727-5865]

It’s been a while since we’ve been to Eagle Lake in beautiful sunset country Ontario in the summer, and it seems like we’ve been missing out!  Danny Herbeck, our long-time friend, and AML guide is navigating this giant body of water, and finding the fish. Andy Myers owner, who himself has been guiding on Eagle since he was a boy, Julian Kalka joins us as well.

What we loved about this trip was that we set a plan, and it went exactly as expected!  Danny first put us on walleyes, he was trying his “big fish” spots, so we had a chance for a giant, but it wasn’t one-after-another.  If catching one every cast is what you want to do, that is something an AML guide can do too, by heading to a “numbers” spot. After the walleyes gave us a thrill for half the day, we set out for shallow bays to find bass, and on our first cast we got one.  It was all fun after that!

We always have a great time on Eagle Lake, and the Andy Myers Lodge guides are truly top-notch.
