Nonstop Action in Michigan’s U.P.

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is filled with endless lakes to explore, and luckily our good friend, pro bass angler Ron Johnson, now calls it home. Ron has been scouting new waters all summer, and this week we had the chance to join him on one of the best lakes he’s found. Our main target was crappies, but with walleyes and bass mixed in, the action stayed steady. Even a few heavy downpours couldn’t slow things down, and when the crappies turned on, it was nonstop bites. This was one of those trips that leaves you counting the days until you can come back.

It’s a foggy late-summer day on Lake Michigan, and the conditions have lined up perfectly for a unique opportunity—jigging for big king salmon and coho out of Port Washington. With cooler surface temps pushing baitfish close to shore, the salmon aren’t far behind, and when they hit, the fight is nothing short of explosive. Joined by our buddy Henry Abbott, we break down the tactics, gear, and excitement of chasing these powerhouse fish right near the harbor.

We always look forward to this time of year, especially when it means heading up to Ashland, Wisconsin with Captain Josh Teigen. Chequamegon Bay is a world-class fishery, home to walleyes, bass, and pike — and on this trip, we caught all three! Joining us were two special guests, legendary angler Pete Maina and John from Seaguar, which made the day on the water even more memorable. It’s hard to beat great company, incredible fishing, and one of our favorite destinations.

Multi-Species Magic with Rob Manthei

We’ve got a very special guest joining us on the water today: John Barmore, a retired Milwaukee firefighter who now serves with the Fire Fighters Union. This trip was donated to benefit Ignite the Spirit, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Milwaukee firefighters and their families during times of need. John won the outing during their annual Ice Fish-O-Ree fundraiser, and we wanted to make sure it was a day to remember.


To put us on the bite, we teamed up with pro guide and good friend Rob Manthei. While Rob’s passion is muskie, he knows how to find fish no matter the season, and he lined us up on an excellent multi-species bite. Great weather, great company, and plenty of fish — everything came together for an unforgettable trip
