Beautiful Day on the Peninsula

We’re heading out on a road trip north with a few good buddies to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Brett Jolly, Josh Teigen, and pro bass angler Ron Johnson are all along as we check out the waters of the Keweenaw Peninsula for walleye and pike. We try a lot of different presentations, and get a lot of action, and we’ll take all that we can get as we’re about to say goodbye to open water, and welcome the ice season.

First Ice of the Season

First ice is finally here! We’re out with pro guide Josh Teigen, who has done a lot of scouting behind the scenes searching firstly for good ice, and second to actually catch some fish. He’s got us on a good bite for crappies, bass, and pike.

Winter Lake Trout

We’re out on Lake Michigan chasing lake trout, which are spawning this time of year.  Capt. Caleb Zorn has been fishing Lake Michigan nearly his whole life, and loves to share his passion with anyone that will listen.  Caleb tells us that these trout will bite most days in the winter, but the hardest part is actually getting a boat to the spots. If you have access to a  boat, and can also get out to the spot, you’ve got a good chance at a trophy fish.

Trout Float Trip

We would expect to be out on the ice on at least smaller lakes in the southern part of Wisconsin, but the mild temperatures continue, so we were greeted with a unique opportunity - an open water float trip targeting trout and salmon.  We’ve done plenty of trips down various rivers with Tim Maher, but never this late in the year, and never looking for trout specifically. Tim tells us that as long as you can get out, you’ve got a chance, and as soon as the ice is safe enough, he will be pulling these same fish through a hole.

Jumbo Ice Bluegills

It’s the last episode of the year, and we’re going out with a fun one!  Ryley Hansen primarily targets muskies on open water, but when it freezes over, he completely switches it up and targets trophy panfish.  This week we’re chasing jumbo gills, and it does not disappoint.  A fun trip with a great group to ring in the new year!
