Episode 36

Perch Jerkin’ on Winnebago

Show Date: September 2, 2023

Location: Lake Winnebago, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Guide: Captain Matt Merten [920-410-2206]

Our go-to guy on Lake Winnebago, Matt Merten, called us and said the perch are biting, and we couldn’t get up to the lake fast enough.  Matt has started guiding out of a pontoon boat, and it is one of the most relaxing ways to get a great mess of fish, and have fun the entire time we were out there. We’re glad that the perch population has started to bounce back on Bago, and hope that anglers can be conservative, so the next generation has the same great fishing.

Episode 39

Battling Salmon in the Harbor

Show Date: September 23, 2023

Location: Lake Michigan; Racine, Wisconsin

Guide: Captain Caleb Zorn [262-515-7944]

Late September and October is a magical time in many of the harbors that dot the shoreline of Lake Michigan.  What happens during this time is the Chinook Salmon that were stocked 4 years ago, return to where they were planted, and lay their eggs just before they die. This is their normal life cycle, and during these weeks that they are laying their eggs, they instinctively want their eggs to survive, and to eliminate other eggs.  That’s why we use the eggs of previously caught fish as bait.

When these fish get hooked up; they fight extremely hard, but in a harbor there are lots of variables that make the fight more challenging, and more fun! Huge thanks to Caleb for putting us on fish, and to Craig for joining us for a fantastic afternoon of fishing!

Episode 40

The Muskie Struggle

Show Date: September 30, 2023

Location: Leech Lake, Minnesota

The muskie season has begun! Every muskie angler loves the thrill of hooking into a monster fish, it’s addicting, that’s why we keep doing it.  However, there can be days where there is nothing but boredom, misery, and heartbreak.  We did catch a few fish on this trip, but there were hours and hours in between where there was nothing, but that’s what we signed up for when we started muskie fishing. There will be better days, and we can’t wait!
