Episode 26
On the Bay for Walleye and Bass

This week we’re out on the bay of Green Bay with Caleb Zorn & Dale Stroschein.  We’ve got 2 days, so we head out for walleyes on the first day, and bass on day 2.

Dale tells us that the walleyes will travel with the same year class, so if we catch a big fish, there are likely more of similar size in that same spot. To our amazement we fine some huge fish, which is very surprising given the time of year.  We are fishing shallow water over rocks, and watching these fish in this crystal clear water is a true thrill.  Heading out for bass with Caleb on day 2 rounds out a great trip to the Sturgeon Bay area.

The Flowages of Central Wisconsin

This week we’ve taking a trip to central Wisconsin to visit our friend and Charter Captain Brett Jolly.  Captain Jolly usually guides us on the bay of Green Bay, but now we’re in his home area, and there is a lot of water to choose from.

We get to troll and cast to catch walleyes.  Trolling is a great way to get a lot of fish, and can be constant action, which is what we experienced.  After trolling, we zero in on where we got most of our fish, and set up a drift to so some casting.  We catch a lot of walleyes, as well as “incidental” catches of crappies.

Land O’ Lakes Wisconsin

Matty B fished the beautiful three lakes chain as a kid, so he’s excited to try out some new lakes in the nearby Conover area.  We picked a lake that we’ve never fished, using the DNR report to see that is’t got plentiful walleye and bass.  This should be a great plastics bite!

Episode 29
Fun Day on the River in the Dells

We absolutely love it when we get a chance to get back to the Wisconsin River in Wisconsin Dells to fish with Big Dave.  Dave knows every spot on this stretch of river; so we know he will get something to bite, no matter the time of year or weather. We’ve also got Dave’s (and now our) buddie Dennis along as well.

This time of year is truly a multi-species anglers dream.  Dave tells us that rivers are less susceptible to weather fluctuations, so if fishing is slow on the lakes in the area, that may not be the case on the rivers.   Rivers are also fun to fight fish in, because the current adds to the drag on the fish, making it more exciting.  We catch crappies, bluegill, bass, sauger, and dogfish.  All are fun to catch, especially since you never know what you’re going to catch.

Fishing with the Baitmate Winners

This week we welcomed Valerie and Scott, the winners of last years “Catch of the Week” Contest from Baitmate. Valerie submitted a photo of a pike she caught, and it was chosen at the grand prize winner.  

We are fishing on one of our favorite bass lakes, Delavan Lake.  We have had some excellent day on Delavan over the years, which is impressive given that is so close to Milwaukee, and has a lot of boat traffic.  We set up near a weed bed, and virtually don’t need to move for the rest of the day.  Using our wacky worms soaked in Baitmate we’re casting and “popping” up and over the weeds, dropping in pockets to get the attention of these big fish.
