Episode 6

First Time Inshore Saltwater Fishing

We’ve never been inland saltwater fishing before, and we’re excited!  Magnus and Sam of Savage Gear have invited us out to the Florida Keys to experience one of the most unique bites we have ever seen.  We are aboard the boat of Captain Honson Lau, Honson has put his time in on the water, and has the experience needed for this type of fishing.  

What we are doing is bizarre for us northerners, gliding along in under a foot of water, being propelled by our guide pushing a long pole into the seafloor, so we move absolutely silently. Honson is up on a platform in the back of the boat so he can spot fish, and direct the anglers at the front of the boat where to cast.  This unique combination of sight-fishing, and blind-casting made for an absolutely remarkable fishing day that we won’t forget.

Exploring Northern Wisconsin

This week’s were doing a little exploring with Captain Josh Teigen in Bayfield county.  Josh has been trying new lakes lately, and wanted us to come along and see what we can come up with.  We’ve set up a bunch of Beaver Dam’s & and are jigging for panfish too. We don’t really know what to expect, and that’s where it gets fun. ‘

Northwoods Cold-Front

This week it’s bitter cold in Vilas County, but we have a great group that’s joining us to head out on the ice to see what we can catch.  We have 2 days, and have the chance to target panfish, walleye, and pike. The cold temps did slow the bite down, but luckily the temps rise on day 2, and the ti-ups were pretty active.

Lake Superior Trophy Lakers

Location: Lake Superior, Bayfield, WI

This week we take a long ride across the ice on the largest Great Lake in North America, Lake Superior.  We are taking this long ride in search of giant lake trout that swim in depths up to 200 feet. Captain Josh Teigen is our guide, and we wouldn’t be out here with anyone else.  Ice fishing on a Great Lake can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing, a strong wind in an unfavorable direction can wipe out a foot of ice in hours.  

On this trip with somebody who knows where they are going can garner great rewards - Josh’s clients have caught fish over 30 pounds, and that is exactly what we are after.
