Episode 10

Jumbo Bay Perch and Walleye

Show Date: March 6th, 2021

Location: West Side of the Bay of Green Bay, Oconto, Wisconsin

Guide: Tim Maher [(920) 604-4169]

We’re very excited to get out on the ice this week, because it’s a location that we’ve been wanting to fish for a while, but we just weren’t able to get out for one reason or another. Our friend Brett Jolly introduced us to Tim Maher, who we had actually fished with a few years ago in the river for steelhead.

Tim has a hot bite on the ice that he’s guided us to, and we can catch big perch, walleye, and even an occasional northern pike. Jigging for perch in the mornings, and moving spots to target walleye and pike in the evening. This combination really is any ice fisherman’s dream!

Episode 11

Massive River Perch on the Mississippi

Show Date: March 13th, 2021

Location: Mississippi River, La Crosse, Wisconsin

Guide: Vince Moldenhauer [(414) 791 5534 | greatriveroutdoorsllc.com]

This week is our last ice fishing trip of the year, and we’re going out with a unique show that we’ve always wanted to do. Capt. Caleb Zorn, connected us with Captain Vince Moldenhauer, who guides the Mississippi River on ice as well as open water.

During the ice season, Vince takes his customers to the spots via air boat, which gives him an advantage, especially late in the season. Using an air boat opens up spots that you could not get to otherwise. This time of year, when the big perch are biting; the main river channel is usually open, but there are spots out of the current that are still iced over. These shallow spots out of the current are where the big perch, and pike, are feeding this time of year.

We catch most of the perch using tip-downs, but jigging works too. We also set a few Beaver Dams in shallow water near shore for pike.

We need to thank Vince at Great River Outdoors for putting us on this unique bite, and taking care to get us safely to good ice.

Episode 12

Back on Open Water!

Show Date: March 20th, 2021

Location: Fox River, De Pere, Wisconsin

Guide: Brett Jolly [715-581-5678 | captainjollycharters.com]

We’re back on open water! Captain Brett Jolly made it interesting this week, but ultimately put us on fish. We are one amongst the many boats that are on the river this time of year, but it doesn’t matter when you’re catching fish. There is a reason that all these boats are here, and we’re early, so the bite will only get better in the coming weeks!

Since we are a little early, the water temps are still pretty low, so a VERY slow presentation is what is most effective. A dead hooked minnow, and the smallest jig you can keep on the bottom is what worked best for us. As the water temps increase, Brett tells us that he eventually will switch to using artificial lures exclusively.

Episode 13

Spring Walleyes on the Bay

Show Date: March 27th, 2021

Location: Bay of Green Bay, Wisconsin

Guide: Brett Jolly [715-581-5678 | captainjollycharters.com]

We’re on the bay of Green Bay this week, chasing walleyes. Captain Brett Jolly tells us that the walleyes spawn everywhere on the bay, it’s not just in the rivers, so you don’t need to fish in a crowded area if you don’t want to. You can find your own spot, and pretty much have it to yourself. We’re using plastics like the Kalin’s Jerk minnow, as well as jigging lures like the Livingston Lures Pro Ripper. We set up a drift along a shoreline, and have a lot of water to work.
