Episode 40

Miltona Muskies

Show Date: October 2, 2021

Location: Lake Miltona, Minnesota

Accomodations: Viking Bay Resort [ 218-943-2104 | https://www.vikingbay.com/]

Guide: Dave Williamson [320-491-2898]

We’re back out on the water chasing after the fish of 10,000 casts, and it sure felt like it on this trip.  This time of year you can throw just about any bait that you like, but as always, different anglers should be trying different lures to try to develop a pattern.  Our guide, Dave Williamson, says that this time of year you can throw fun fast-moving lures, like top-water or bucktails.  We arrive in the midst of a cold-front, so we think we can get on fish after that, but nothing in fishing is ever guaranteed.

Episode 41

Mississippi River Panfish Bonanza

Show Date: October 9th, 2021

Location: Mississippi River, La Crosse, Wisconsin

Guide: Vince Moldenhauer [(414) 791 5534 | greatriveroutdoorsllc.com]

This week we’re over in La Crosse Wisconsin with guide Vince Moldenhauer targeting panfish, specifically perch.  We were in this same area in March, but catching them through the ice.  Vince tells us that this time of year is when these fish are ferociously eating, and if you get on a school, you can limit out pretty quickly.  We’re using mostly live bait, either minnows or nightcrawlers, on a Eagle Claw Aberdeen hook and a bobber.

Episode 42

Back to Winnebago

Show Date: October 16th, 2021

Location: Lake Winnebago; Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Guide: Captain Matt Merten [920-410-2206 | https://www.badgersportsmanoutdoors.com/ ]

One destination that we’ve been missing for the last two years has been Lake Winnebago. Lake Winnebago has seen some tough times in terms of a poor bite, for every species that the lake has to offer.  We’re not sure why, but every lake goes through ups and downs, and we’re happy that the bite on this lake has started to swing up.

We’re back with our good friend, and guide, and friend, Matt Merten.  Matt has told us that from what he has been hearing from the older generations, as well as from his own experiences, that the perch bite is getting good; and he fully expects it to continue getting better in the next few years.  He finally called us to invite us to see what we had been hearing about, and the trip did not disappoint.  We’re super excited to be back on Bago, and are thrilled to see it get better and better in the future.

Episode 43

When it Rains, It Pours…

Show Date: October 23rd, 2021

Locations: Geneva Lake, Walworth County, Wisconsin

Big and Little Cedar Lakes, Washington County, Wisconsin

Every angler has had a few of those days where you just can’t quite get on them, and no matter what you do, you can’t find a pattern to find fish.  Home for us is Southeastern Wisconsin, and where there is a big east wind, you just know that the fishing will be off in some way or another.

Just like any of you, we have the days we are going to fish, and we get out on the water no matter what, determined to get a bite, regardless of what the weather conditions are. This week, we spent two days near home, and tried a lot of different things, and caught some nice fish, but couldn't get them to go with any consistency.

Episode 44

The Yahara River

Show Date: October 30th, 2021

Location: The Yahara River, Madison, Wisconsin

We were very excited to get out onto the Yahara River, near Madison, with Matty B.  Matt has fished here, and done well for largemouth bass in the past, and he’s always been wanting to bring us here to experience it.  Unfortunately when we get fishing, we find that the river levels are down around 2-3 feet, making most of the river about a foot deep.  With that shallow of water, getting around was not easy, and we spent way more time traveling than we did fishing.

Our pattern for these bass suits everyone in the boat, some cast in right up to skinny water near shore, and others can cast out, and work the shoreline break about 10-20 feet off of shore.
